What's Plivo?

Plivo (www.Plivo.com) is a cloud-based API Platform for SMS (texting) that integrates seamlessly with Jackrabbit. Once you’ve created a Plivo account and added your credit card details you’ll be able to text customers from within Jackrabbit. See Texting Setup for instructions on getting setup with Plivo.

 


To reach Plivo Customer Support you must visit the Plivo Support Portal to create and manage tickets. Effective July 31, 2017 Plivo no longer accepts direct emails to support@plivo.com.

Text Message Guidelines

Jackrabbit text messaging is intended to facilitate urgent and timely communication between your organization and customers. It is not intended as a general marketing tool. Texting has very strict regulations on use governed by the FCC, CTIA, and MMA. 

  • DO NOT USE text messaging for marketing.
  • Avoid marketing phrases like "Congratulations", "Buy Now", "Sale Today Only".
  • Avoid dollar amounts or other symbols that might indicate marketing ($199, Buy Now!, 20% off, etc.).
  • Do not add “Reply Stop”.
  • Minimize the number of messages per day. Too many messages will not only annoy customers but may trigger a carrier to block your sending phone number permanently. Jackrabbit will alert you when you’ve sent 500 cumulative texts in a 1 day period.  
  • THE FOLLOWING WORDS AND SYMBOLS ARE NOT ALLOWED: $, % BUY, SALE, FREE, STOP.

Text Message Fees

Jackrabbit does not charge for the texting feature, however, Plivo will charge a fee per text message sent (refer to https://www.plivo.com/pricing/). You’ll purchase a credit amount with Plivo that will decrease as texts are sent. If you choose, you can set your Plivo account to automatically increase your credit balance when it is low by setting up Auto Recharge in your Plivo account.

Your Text from Number

You will need to rent at least one phone number from Plivo to be able to send text messages. After you’ve created a Plivo account, click the Numbers tab while on the API Platform menu. Click Buy Number and use the Search Criteria to find a list of available numbers. Note: If a family replies to your number via text you will receive that reply in email format to the address you've listed in Families > Email/Text Families > Reply Email Address. Your text from number is NOT able to receive incoming calls.
